I was invited to speak to AAAS’s Alan I. Leshner Leadership Institute Public Engagement Fellows. On a panel of science journalists and writers, I spoke about science storytelling through video and gave advice on production and distribution on online and mobile platforms.

NOMINEE (AS PRODUCER & NARRATOR) – NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC’S “101” VIDEO SERIES
Starting in 2017, I had the opportunity to produce, write, and narrate this explainer series. I worked with a talented group of writers and video editors and, together, we helped the 10-year-old series win its first award nomination.

HONOREE (AS WRITER & HOST) – NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC’S SNAPCHAT QUIZZES
The Snapchat Quizzes were experimental in their format and platform, since National Geographic was just venturing into the realms of vertical video and Snapchat. We took a format that had traditionally been frowned upon and used it to share the love of science on an innovative platform.

VIDEO PRODUCTION INTERN
I was awarded an internship creating video content for a curator in the Medical History Collection. This internship introduced me to the world of museums and paved a way for a chance to work as a Production Assistant in the Smithsonian Channel’s documentary film series “Civil War 360”.
National Geographic’s Asian Pacific Entertainment Connection (APEX)
FOUNDER & CHAIR
I brought together a team of NG employees to promote and celebrate Asian Pacific heritage. Fueled by their enthusiasm and devotion, I developed strategies to make Asian employees more visible in the workplace and advocated for sensitive representation of Asian people and cultures in editorial content across NG.

After three exciting years as a master’s student at American University, I was selected by AU faculty and staff to represent my graduating class as commencement speaker.

I decided to take a plunge and pursue the impossible: try to become a host for National Geographic. One of the first steps I took was apply to AU’s Film and Video program, which awarded me with a merit scholarship, a teaching assistantship, and fellowship.

I absolutely loved my time at UT. There, I fell in love with anthropology and had unforgettable learning experiences, such as conducting archaeological fieldwork in the Caribbean and processing human remains from the Body Farm.
